it / Middle time è un’installazione video su due canali che utilizza un documento storico: il filmato della distruzione dei Buddha di Bamiyan, in Afghanistan, per mano dei talebani nel marzo 2001. L’opera presenta in loop i secondi precedenti e i secondi immediatamente successivi la detonazione che portò alla demolizione della statua più grande, precludendo al fruitore il momento cruciale, il tempo di mezzo. In tal modo si cerca di indurre l’osservatore a riflettere su cause ed effetti di quella contraddittoria scelta, che cambiò l’orizzonte geo-politico del territorio e non solo.
en / Middle time is a video installation on two channels that makes use of historical documentary material: footage of the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas, in Afghanistan, at the hands of the Taliban in March 2001. The piece depicts, on a loop, the moments leading up to and immediately following the detonation that lead to the destruction of the largest statue, denying the viewer the crucial moment, the time in the middle. In this way, the intention is that the observer will be prompted to reflect on the causes and effects of that contradictory decision, which changed the area’s geopolitical landscape and much more.
