“The Craft of Philosophy” is the title of the third edition of Featuring the Sculpture Habitat, an annual sculpture exhibition curated by Andrea Guastella and Studio M’arte, produced by Aurea Phoenix APS.

The exhibition will take place as part of the summer event AcquAria Art, in the gallery of the first tier and the outdoor garden of the Acquario Romano – Casa dell’Architettura from 17 July to 9 September 2024.

In this building steeped in memories, Studio M’arte, a leading sculpture workshop, and Andrea Guastella, head of the Progetto (s)cultura column at ArtsLife, which features interviews dedicated to sculpture, have invited seventeen contemporary artists—active in various fields of sculpture, from marble and ceramics to woodwork—to reflect on the relationship between sculpture and architectural space: Giovanni Balderi, Luigi Citarrella, Emiliano Coletta, Alessia Forconi, Athar Jaber, Filippo La Vaccara, Amedeo Longo, Giovanni Longo, Corrado Marchese, Giuseppe Negro, Fabio Ricciardiello, Silvia Scaringella, Emanuele Scuotto, Flavio Senoner, Guido Sotriffer, Mario Velocci, Silvia Vendramel.

In Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, the masterpiece by Pirsig, the protagonist-narrator asks: “What is the difference between someone who travels by motorcycle knowing how the bike works and someone who does not?” It is worth recalling his answer: “The Buddha, the Divine, dwells in the circuitry of a computer or in the gears of a motorcycle with the same ease as on top of a mountain or in the petals of a flower.” This thought would lead to further questions and answers that transformed that road adventure into a symbolic book of road philosophy.

The Craft of Philosophy, the title conceived for the third edition of Featuring the Sculpture Habitat, an exhibition of sculpture curated by Studio M’arte and Andrea Guastella, aims to complete the circle by focusing on the relationship between sculpture, thought, and manual work, tracing back to the point where “reason and Quality have separated.” But what is Quality? Everyone can say what it is, yet no one knows where it resides. This is because, according to the exhibition curators, Quality is not a “thing” but an “event” to be experienced.
